🔊 Color Me…Oh My

Lewisville

Kay got a jump to the weekend on Friday afternoon. There was a black panther statue that caught her eye, but did not make the trip home. However, first thing Saturday she was back out looking to see if it was still there. It was and now keeps watch at Gray Beam Manor.

Through the front door…this house was heavy on Pillsbury Dough Boy collectibles, mounted deer heads, and “rusty gold” in the garage. Put my faith in 50% day ahead to leave behind the large ceramic black panther by Linda (purported to be made by the home’s owner). First at the door the next chilly morning, shooting the shit with professional resellers, listening to the sounds of chickens from the house next door. Got lucky, and this beguiling creature with turned up feminine eyes and red nose would be mine on day #2 along with the nudie girl mirror and funky serving platter.

After Kay’s re-visit, Saturday was a four-stop day. We started with this white two-story and Michael across a box of LEGO. #score It had a drill rig and some parts of other sets. There were two cool 8x10 photo frames for a buck each. Kay found more outfits for Joyce, a fun angel with lights and a old ghost children’s book.

Woods at Oak Mont

On to the second house. In addition to the monkey lion statue, she found some choice outfits for Joyce. The red dress was a hit! [foreshadowing]

The Knoll at Oak Mont

This was a fun house to view. One of the bonus reasons we estate is to see the homes and treasure that were important to the owners. This one had a chest full of menus that commemorated important events in their lives. Some were signed adding an extra cool dimension.

Coming into the house, Michael saw the Kennedy portrait and nodded knowingly. After a few trips through the house and looking more closely at it thought it might be one to keep. Waiting to show Kay, he thought it might disappear but finally had a chance to show it and confirmed that it needed to come home. It pairs nicely with the Kennedy head statue from the 1960’s.

Working to get a photo of the mailbox because it was the same style as ours, we watched a car trying to do a 100-point turn in a driveway that seemed to take a lifetime. As the vehicle was close to getting out, it backed into the mailbox across the street. No damage, but a fitting end to the maneuver.

Windsor Ridge

On to the last house that turned out to be a one-treasure stop. Michael saw the framed art and immediately picked it up. This checks a lot of boxes that trip his design style ethos. Asymmetric, with plenty of space to breathe combined with the vintage look and dimensional frame. Rare to have back-to-back stops where he picks up art!

One fun element involved a woman who approached us and started talking about a prior estate sale. Fun, right? Well, it took a bit of a turn. She was asking Kay to purchase a dress that we picked up at that sale. She said she hung it up and walked away for a minute and when she came back it was gone. We looked at her funnily and declined her offer. Kay mentioned that you can’t set something down and walk away and expect it to be ‘saved’ :)
